Understand balances and arrears

For bursars and Directors. Balances (Finance → Balances) shows billed versus paid per student for the selected term.
How a balance is computed
Section titled “How a balance is computed”Outstanding = billed this term + B/F − payments received
- Billed — the fee items charged for the selected term.
- B/F (brought forward) — unpaid amounts from previous terms, rolled in automatically. New students never carry B/F from before they joined.
- Cleared — nothing outstanding. Full definitions in the Glossary.
Leavers and transfers
Section titled “Leavers and transfers”Students who left or transferred but still owe appear in a separate Leavers & transfers with outstanding balances section, so arrears stay collectible instead of vanishing.
